Calling all birders, whether you’re a beginner, expert, or somewhere in between! Spend all or part of your day learning about and looking for floodplain forest birds, waterfowl, and upland game birds at Heron Bend Conservation Area. This Building Better Birders workshop includes both birding hikes and formal presentations with plenty of time for questions.
Here is the detailed itinerary:
7-9 AM: Bird Hike
9-9:30 AM: Break
9:30-11 AM: “Floodplain Forest Birds of Iowa” Presentation
11 AM-Noon: Lunch Break
Noon-1:30 PM: “Waterfowl and Upland Gamebirds of Iowa” Presentation
1:30-2 PM: Break
2-5 PM: Bird Hike Auto Tour Along the Mississippi River
This event is FREE! Come for the whole day or for any single session! Binoculars available to borrow! The workshop will be conducted by Kelly McKay (BioEco Research and Monitoring Center), with assistance from Mark Roberts (Clinton County Conservation), Brian Ritter and James Wiebler (Nahant Marsh Education Center). Funding for the workshop is provided by the Resource Enhancement and Protection- Conservation Education Program (REAP-CEP).
